Dedicated to
Milwaukee area Stay-at-Home Dads and all other dads
The goal of the Milwaukee Dads group is
to provide support and activities for any dad at home with children
during the day. Any father active in raising his children is welcome to
join us, you don't have to be a full-time, stay-at-home dad.
It
has now been almost 5 years since the group was formed, and I could not
be more proud and pleased by how things have gone. I thought that it
would take a lot longer to build the numbers that we have at this point.
Thank goodness for the world of technology... this simple web site has
been a great resource for dads looking for other dads.
My vision of taking the standard moms group and adding a male twist to
it has come to fruition. Scrapbooking, recipes, and quilting clubs have
been replaced by fantasy leagues, poker nights, and golf outings. There
are now enough dads in the group that you can almost always find another
dad or two who are into the same things you are.
The one thing I did not anticipate in starting the group has
been the level of friendships I have made with the other d ads.
I knew that it would be great to have my daughter around other kids all
the time, but I had no idea what kind of dads I would find and if I
would have anything in common with them. The common bond of taking care
of our kids is very strong, and I have formed some friendships that I'm
sure will last even when the kids are older.
Starting this group has been one of the most rewarding things I have
ever done. The dads that really get involved with the group find it
great for the kids and get a lot out of knowing there are other guys out
there doing the same thing. I have learned so much from the other dads
in the group, it has made me that much better at the job I have chosen.
I am proud to be a stay-at-home dad and I don’t understand why any dad
would be ashamed of the role. I don’t know too many guys who have the
temperament, patience, or interest to be a full-time dad. It is by far
the most rewarding job I have ever had.
